At Hyundai, we’re not just dedicated to new ways
of thinking. We’re also dedicated to providing our designers,
engineers and manufacturers with the tools and equipment they need
to excel.
The all-new Hyundai Sonata and Santa Fe are being built in one of
the most advanced assembly plants in North America, our $1.1 billion
Alabama manufacturing facility. And in our North American Design &
Development Centers, Hyundai is hard at work inventing the vehicles
and components of the future.
Facilities such as:
Hyundai Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) headquarters –
Ann Arbor, Michigan Hyundai’s Center of Research & Development
in North America
This 200,000-square-foot facility celebrated its grand opening in
October 2005.
The center’s 400 employees will focus on improving overall vehicle
quality, increasing fuel economy, reducing vehicle emissions, bettering
vehicle safety and upgrading power and vehicle performance capabilities.
This world-class complex has been designed and engineered to make
the most out of computer-aided engineering (CAE) analysis, which cuts
down on the time it takes to perform tests. The building includes
state-of-the-art engine transient dynamometer and chassis dynamometer
development cells, which allows designers to simulate on-road testing
(by electronically applying load to vehicles) to provide more accurate
vehicle emissions readings. HATCI headquarter facilities also includes
a vehicle design center, an evaluation center and several laboratories
for the evaluation of materials and component performance.
The Hyundai Proving Ground – California City/Mojave Desert,
California Where The Rubber Meets The Road And Our Quality And Safety
Measures Are Put To The Test
In January 2005, HATCI opened this $50 million, 4,300-acre facility,
constructed to recreate road and highway conditions from across the
U.S. to test and refine our industry-leading safety systems, such
as our Electronic Stability Control and standard side-impact airbags.
The Proving Ground includes a 6.4-mile oval track, a 2 million-square-foot
Vehicle Dynamics Area (VDA), a 2.75-mile winding track and 6 miles
of special surface roads constructed to duplicate various U.S. roads
and highways.
Hyundai Design Center – Irvine, California
The 2006 Santa Fe was designed at this $30 million, 90,000-square-foot
design and technical center. More than 100 auto designers, engineers,
model makers and technicians work in this state-of-the-art facility
outfitted with the world’s most advanced visualization, graphics
and clay-modeling technologies, which help keep Hyundai at the forefront
of car technology and design.
You’ll see that Hyundai is a company on the move, a company
where a new way of thinking is being born – right here in the
United States.

Every new Hyundai out of our Alabama plant has at
least 2.3 miles on the odometer?
Every Hyundai that comes off the assembly line is immediately road
tested on our special test track, to ensure that everything on your new Hyundai is working exactly
the way it should. No squeaks or rattles are acceptable.
