FAQ

All-wheel drive (AWD) means your car, truck, or SUV has the capability of delivering power to all four wheels at the same time. AWD systems are always active and automatically share torque among the axles when low-traction conditions are detected. On the other hand, while a 4-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle connects the front and rear wheels together to evenly distribute the power to all four wheels, 4WD systems are part-time and need to be engaged by the driver. 4WD is also only found in larger SUVs and trucks. Hyundai has several options of AWD vehicles, including TUCSON, SANTE FE, IONIQ 5, KONA, SANTA CRUZ, and PALISADE.
All-wheel drive (AWD) means your car, truck, or SUV has the capability of delivering power to all four wheels at the same time. Most AWD vehicles automatically change the amount of power being sent to the front or rear wheels based on road conditions.
AWD (all-wheel drive) vehicles are good in snow and on icy roads as they automatically distribute power to all four wheels at the same time, engaging torque as needed.
In short, yes. While the difference in fuel efficiency is usually very low, all wheel drive vehicles do use more gas because of the power being added to all four wheels simultaneously. Hyundai, however, has AWD vehicles that are MPG friendly, like KONA, SANTA CRUZ, TUCSON (standard and hybrid), and SANTA FE (standard and hybrid).
