Hydrogen is quite safe--even safer than other fuels. To ensure the utmost safety, hydrogen fuel is stored inside highly durable carbon-fiber tanks tested to withstand extreme heat and collisions. Plus, hydrogen is the lightest element, so even if it leaks from the tank, it disperses quickly into the air, making the chances of a fire very low.
The process that converts hydrogen into electricity produces only water vapor and warm air.
Fuel cells require less maintenance than internal combustion engines, however routine check-ups are important, areas such as brakes, fluids, tires, wipers, battery and cabin filters do require replacement from time-to-time depending on time or mileage.
