Whether you have front-wheel or all-wheel drive, you’ll eventually encounter a surface that makes you wish you had more traction. And, at that moment, you’ll appreciate the Tucson’s standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control System (TCS).5.
Sensors monitor steering angle and wheel speed, comparing where you want to go with where the car is heading. If a difference between the two is detected and a skid is imminent, Electronic Stability Control adjusts brake and throttle input as needed to redirect the car and help keep you on course. NHTSA studies show SUVs equipped with ESC experience 67% fewer single-vehicle crashes and 63% fewer single-vehicle fatalities. In addition, a recent study by the IIHS found that ESC reduces the risk of all fatal collisions by 52% and the risk of fatal single-vehicle rollovers of SUVs by 80%. Convincing numbers, to say the least, which is why Hyundai decided to make ESC standard on every Tucson we build.
ESC is backed up by the Traction Control System, which, in the event of unexpected wheelspin, routes power to the tire with the most traction to help you maintain control.
Together, both systems give Tucson an uncanny assurance in slippery conditions, eliminating a lot of white-knuckle apprehension that’s so often part of winter driving.
