Along with rear-wheel drive, the 2012 Genesis is now offered with your choice of three powerful engines, an all-new 8-speed automatic transmission and a new range-topping model, the Genesis 5.0 R-Spec, that puts 429 hp at your command.
In addition to the impressive Tau® 4.6L V8, the 2012 Genesis is available with a new 5.0L high-performance Tau V8 that generates 429 hp and 376 lb.-ft. of torque. This design features Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) for more power, increased fuel efficiency and lower emissions. Industry acclaim for this new V8 has been as swift as the acceleration it creates; like the 4.6L in 2009 and 2010, the 5.0L is a winner of Ward’s 10 Best Engines for 2011.
In just a few years, Genesis engines have received awards and acclaim for their design, power and sophistication. And now these engines are matched with a new 8-speed SHIFTRONIC® automatic transmission that handles every driving situation with unobtrusive ease.
For this new model, we started with the award-winning 5.0L Tau V8, then added a sport-tuned suspension, 19-inch premium machined finish alloy wheels and tires. Distinctive headlights with dark chrome inserts plus R-Spec badging on the exterior of the vehicle and the floor mats complete the transformation.
If having more horsepower than other luxury competitors’ V6 engines appeals to you, then read on. With 333 hp on tap, the Genesis 3.8L V6 offers plenty of power for making miles of interstate disappear or passing on two-lane roads. Once again, Gasoline Direct Injection is at the heart of this engine’s ability to generate smooth, efficient acceleration.
The 2012 Genesis offers an impressive range of trim level powertrains that include the 3.8L V6 with 333 hp, the 4.6L DOHC V8 with 385 hp and the 5.0L DOHC V8 with 429 hp. Both the 4.6 and 5.0 have all of the features of the 3.8, plus Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS), chrome lower-body side moldings, auto-dimming exterior mirrors, illuminated door sills and a woodgrain-trimmed leather steering wheel.
