Hyundai has made a worldwide commitment
to a greener future. In 2004, the company opened its Environmental
Technology Research and Design Center in Seoul, South Korea, supporting
200 researchers and including a hydrogen filling station, a fuel-cell
endurance tester and an emissions lab. The Center itself was built
with an eye toward sustainability, with such earth-friendly features
as floors made from recycled tires and natural lighting systems that
utilize solar reflectors.
Closer to home, the Washington, D.C.-based American Council for
an Energy-Efficient Economy’s (ACEEE) in 2006 named the
Hyundai Accent, Elantra and Sonata as some of the year’s most
environmentally friendly vehicles.
- The Hyundai Accent ranked sixth among all makes and models
for being one of the “Greenest Vehicles of 2006.”
- The Hyundai Accent was also given a “superior”
class ranking in the compact segment.
- The Hyundai Elantra was given a superior ranking in the
midsize car category. The Elantra’s green score topped
manual transmission vehicles in its class.
- The Hyundai Sonata topped the large-car segment and was
selected by ACEEE as one of the year’s “Greener Choices.”
And many of our vehicles in development – the Fuel Cell-Powered
Vehicle, the Solar Car and gas/electric hybrid vehicles
– are being built with environmental mandates in mind.

How green we are?
All of our vehicles are certified Low-Emission vehicles and six of our models are certified Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicles. The Elantra is even certified PZEV (Partial Zero Emission Vehicle) in many markets. |
