What is a VIN?

Generally, to qualify for the warranty extension, you must visit an authorized Hyundai dealership to install the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) on your vehicle.

KSDS is a new engine monitoring technology that adds an extra layer of protection against potential engine damage. The KSDS software update can be completed free of charge under Service Campaign 966. For certain vehicles, an updated version is also available through Service Campaign 982.

If you are unsure if you have KSDS please confirm by visiting HyundaiUSA.com/Campaign. Simply enter your VIN and a list of current open and completed campaigns will be displayed for your vehicle.  If your vehicle’s VIN shows Service Campaign 966 or 982 as open, please schedule an appointment with your local Hyundai dealership to perform the KSDS update.

  • If KSDS was installed for your vehicle, the warranty extension coverage applies to your vehicle.
  • If KSDS was not installed for your vehicle, please schedule an appointment down below with your preferred Hyundai dealer for the free installation of the latest KSDS update. You will be eligible for the coverage upon your completion of the service campaign.
  • Vehicles previously recalled under Recall 198 and Recall 209 are exempt from the KSDS requirement, but owners of these vehicles are strongly encouraged to obtain the free KSDS update.

Hyundai would also like to remind owners that regular maintenance is essential to obtaining the highest level of performance, safety, and reliability from your vehicle. For the vehicles listed above, the engine oil and oil filter should be replaced at least every 7,500 miles and every 12 months under normal usage. Owners are strongly encouraged to retain maintenance records.
